PNEUMATIC CLAMPS & SYSTEMS
Introduction

PNEUMATIC TOGGLE ACTION CLAMPS

Formula for Calculating Maximum Allowable Inlet Pressure:

Maximum Line Pressure = Holding Capacity
                                Cylinder Area x Mechanical Advantage
Example:
For Model 830:

Holding Capacity= 2,500
Cylinder Area= 1.767in. Squared
MA= 9.8:1
Maximum line pressure= 2,500 lbs._______ = 145 psig
1.767 in. squared

Formula for Calculating Exerting Force

Exerting Force= Inlet pressure x MA x Cylinder Area

Example:
For Model 830:

Inlet Pressure= 80 psig
Cylinder Area= 1.767in. Squared
MA= 9.8:1
Exerting force = 80 psig x 1.767 in. squared x 9.8 = 1,385 lbs.

Typical Circuitry
It is relatively simple to plumb a pneumatic or hydraulic circuit. There are only five basic components in every fluid power system:

  • Power source (Air Compressor or Hydraulic Pump)
  • Control Valve
  • Actuators (Cylinders, Clamps)
  • Fluid Conditioners (Filters, Regulators)
  • Piping and Fittings
